Humans becoming vegan, evolution, etc.

To start a philosophical conversation about this topic, I'm asking your opinions, thoughts and beliefs on the subject.

Do you think that humans were originally vegan (Adam and Eve in non-pagan religious stories must have been vegan before "sin entered this world"...but Adam and Eve story aside for us pagans, maybe humans started by eating plants)?

Do you think we've evolved from other animals? Have we evolved from carnivorous animals, and so we all used to eat meat...or have we evolved from herbivore animals, which is why some of us are so drawn to being vegan?...OR have we evolved from a variety of animals, some herbivore, some carnivore, and some omnivore, making today's humans a mixture of the three?

Do you think we are still evolving and some of us faster than others, and that is why some of us are evolving into vegans? For example, I have 13 teeth on the top row and 13 teeth on the bottom row (less teeth than the average meat eater). I also have thin teeth which wouldn't be suitable for meat-eating. Sometimes I wonder if this is for an evolutionary reason. If I ate meat, my sensitive gums would be injured. I know all vegans don't have the same mouth structure that I have, but still I wonder about these things.

Do you believe that it's a spiritual rather than physical evolution we are going through?

There are so many different things you can believe as far as this subject goes, please share your ideas.

are humans evolving? i suppose so but one would wonder sometimes. if ppl aet vegan then i doubt they lived it... do you not think they would have made use of animal remains at the very least? im not sure ppl are evolving vegan but food is an issue for many. x j

I was wondering how many here have made their vegan life part of their actual spiritual practice... i.e. incorporated it into ritual, seasons, etc?

      In response to Lobo's words:
      >>I was wondering how many here have made their vegan life part of their actual spiritual practice... i.e. incorporated it into ritual, seasons, etc?:

I am in a group of awesome pagans, and since some of us are vegan, our gatherings, rituals and parties are always vegan-only food. The non-vegans are so nice to make vegan dishes for our gatherings, even though they aren't vegan themselves. It makes it a lot easier on us vegans, we can relax and not feel burdened or uncomfortable by having meat around during rituals and parties. Plus, the vegan food is always sooo good anyway, and so the non-vegans love to eat it with us! : )

As far as incorporating veganism into spiritual practices...
I like to do a meditation before I eat something, and think about what plants were alive and growing to make this food, what farmers and other people had to work to bring this food to my table. It's kind of like praying, but it's more like appreciating and being thankful. Sometimes I'm too busy and hungry and forget to do this appreciation meditation, but I like when I remember to do it.

Also, cooking sometimes helps me to de-stress. But, one day I realized that I don't want to be "mentally venting" and thinking of stressful things while I handle food that I or others am going to eat. I feel like that brings my negative energy out of me and into the food, passing along negative vibes to whoever eats it or handles it next.

So, now I like to do something else to vent out my frustrations and then when I feel a little more relaxed, then I can touch food, cook, eat, whatever. I feel like when I'm cooking, especially for others, I like to think of positive things, and have positive energy flowing through me to cook the meal with love.

One more thing I do is when I'm at a public ritual and someone is singing or praising a god or goddess of Hunting or something non-vegan like that, in my mind, I personally change that so that I'm appreciating a god that protects the animals of the forest rather than a hunter god...etc. Makes me feel more at ease.

Great topic, Lobo, I'm really interested in what all of the rest of you have to say about this topic.

just curious as to what "hunting/non-vegan" deities your talking about? im not big on deity work but i work with cernunnos, would this be one of them? just that the hunter is also the hunted so im confused as to where you are at on this. also ive worked with animals and other creatures that are hunters. what happens where animal and deity cross over? also would not a hunter also protect the forest? it is their forest as well!

its fine if you dont relate to others ritual connections, there is no reason you should. im just slightly concerned about your implications and presumptions as to what qualifies a non-vegan hunter deity. even non "hunter" architype will hunt. also what is a hunt? is it for food, for adventure, to persue, to run, to escape? there hunt means many things to many people, my hunt can be about discovery, fear and companionship. what is non-vegan about that?

i think there is a danger in using human terms to quantify spiritual matters. its difficult not to but i think it should be given more thought.

        lol

In response to Jacob (there hunt means many things to many people, my hunt can be about discovery, fear and companionship. what is non-vegan about that?):

Ooooh! Great point, Jacob! The "Hunt" doesn't always have to mean killing an animal. There is a sort of "hunt" in the "chase" of humans chasing after the opposite (or same) sex to find a mate, etc., too! Now you've got my brain storming up new ideas of how to incorporate "hunting" ideas without feeling like I'm thinking of animals being killed.

Also, I have nothing against cats, etc. hunting other animals. Cats have the claws and teeth, night vision, etc. that helps them out with their hunts. I Looooove cats, totally adore them! : )

You said "i think there is a danger in using human terms to quantify spiritual matters."...
Yes, you are right on the dot there! These things get complicated!

Hmmm...you gave me a lot to think about, which is greatly appreciated! I love mind stimulation! Anyone else have thoughts about this whole thing?

          purrrrrr...
